Assessment Process

  • 1
Patient schedules an appointment with BHCS for an assessment via our website or phone.
  • 2
Patient receives links to complete our new patient paperwork and assessment tools.
    • We use two systems
    • It is important to complete all the forms in both links.
  • 3
BHCS technician contacts patient to set up a pre-assessment to ensure all forms have been completed and gather more information prior to the assessment.
  • 4
All assessment tools and paper must be completed at least 24 hours prior to the assessment. If not, the assessment will be rescheduled.
  • 5
If the BHCS needs more information additional assessment tools may be sent to patients prior to the assessment.
  • 6
Following the assessment, BHCS technicians contact patients to set up an appointment to go over the assessment with patients and answer any questions they may have.
    • Much of the discussion focuses on destigmatizing diagnoses and highlighting the unique strengths found in each neurotype.
    • Our Behavioral Health Consultants will provide information on the updated diagnoses for patients and their families to review.
    • Assessments are shared with patients and treatment team members to review and inform treatment.
  • 7
After the assessment BHCS technicians provide structured follow ups to ensure patients understand their updated diagnoses, monitor response to treatment, and data collection to track progress.

Results

Our original approach to assessment and treatment has shown promising results over the last year. In a recent sample of over 180 (initial follow-up) and 70 (secondary follow-up) patients we saw steady improvement in their depression and anxiety symptoms.

On average we saw a decrease in our initial group's PHQ-9 (depression) screening tool score by over one point and nearly 1.5 points GAD-7 (anxiety) screening tool.

Our secondary follow-up group saw even more improvements in their scores. On average, the group of patients demonstrated close to a two-point decrease in their PHQ-9 (depression) screening tool score and over a two-point decrease in their GAD-7 (anxiety) screening tool score.
